A Beginner's Guide to Tractor Maintenance

Check the Radiator Fluid

Radiator fluid helps keep the engine from overheating. There will be gradual fluid loss over time, so be sure to check the amount regularly and refill as needed.

Inspect the Engine Oil

Engine oil is an important lubricant and it needs to be of good quality in order to protect your tractor. It's important to inspect the engine oil every so often.

Before you look over the oil, you will want to start up your tractor for a few minutes. That way, you aren't checking on a cold engine.

After you shut off the engine and wait a few minutes, look over the oil. If it is an odd color or is sludgy, it's time to replace it.

Look Over the Tires

Tires play a key role in tractor performance, affecting everything from fuel efficiency to stability on uneven terrain.

Regularly measure the tractor tire air pressure. If they are underinflated or overinflated according to the manufacturer's recommendations, be sure to adjust them.

You'll also want to look over the tires for signs of damage, such as foreign objects embedded in the sidewall or cracks forming. Small issues can be repaired, but more extensive damage will require tire replacement.
